Sydney Sanders

Research Analyst

Sydney Sanders currently acts as the Healthy Pantry Initiative VISTA for the Federation of Virginia Food Banks through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. In this role, she plays an active part in ensuring Virginians around the state receive the right to healthy, nutritious food. 

 

Sydney is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, in addition to minors in International Human Rights and Security, and Social Work. She also received certificates in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, and Global Studies. During her time in university Sydney developed a strong passion for human rights, specifically economic and social rights. 

 

Sydney's journey in human rights began with her time in the Human Rights Research Lab at the University of Georgia, where she contributed to projects on the death penalty and physical integrity rights. She also had the opportunity to conduct her own research on the impact of economic and social rights on development aid. Sydney also interned at the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), where she gained a deeper understanding of human rights research, as well as ways to convey that research to the general public. During her two years with HRMI, Sydney acted as a senior intern, internship coordinator, and senior research assistant for the qualitative data team.
