Renee D. Jean is a researcher of violent extremism, radicalization, terrorism, and counter-terrorism. She received her BA from California State University Fullerton, MA from University of Massachusetts Boston, reached an ABD at York University, and is currently working toward an Advanced Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the University of St. Andrews. She has worked on projects involving anti-war veterans and veteran radicalization patterns, assessed effective counterterrorism policy in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany, and worked as a deescalation trainer and risk assessment expert during a 2-month labor union action. Her current projects analyze the impact of violent right-wing, Christian nationalist, and militia influence on democratic institutions, human rights, radicalization, and racial justice. She has worked with organizations like Indivisible and Citizens Take Action as well as with individual federal staff and academics to conduct outreach and track government, interest group, and defense contractor corruption and is passionate to continue that work.
