HRRC firmly opposes all forms of dictatorship. By advocating for a democratic system, HRRC emphasizes that Syria can build a future where the voices of its people are heard, human rights are upheld, and sustainable peace is within reach.
News Brief
After over five decades of dictatorship rule, Bashar al-Assad's brutal regime abruptly ended yesterday. Beginning on November 27th, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) rebels began a surprising and sudden attack on the city of Aleppo. Late last week, HTS then seized control of Homs, a city representing the beginning of the Syrian uprising years ago. Yesterday, HTS breached and took over Syria's capital, Damascus, marking the end of Assad rule.
The outbreak of civil war in Syria in 2011 led to the formation of two dominant and opposing forces: the US-led West and Russia and Iran-led East. With Russia and Iran backing al-Assad’s government, the now-deposed Syrian leader managed to escape on a flight to Moscow seeking political asylum. Several regional powers are celebrating the overthrow of al-Assad, despite HTS's ties to al-Qaeda. As the Turkish government continues to support the Syrian National Army (SNA) in its fight against al-Assad forces, there is speculation that Türkiye will move to strengthen its relations with the new Syrian government.
