HRRC urgently calls for an immediate stop to the drone strikes in Lebanon, which are indiscriminately killing innocent civilians. Israel must cease its military actions in Lebanon -- and Gaza -- and instead focus on completing a ceasefire deal to avoid further senseless deaths.

News Brief

According to the United Nations, roughly 700 people have been killed, 5,000 injured, and over 90,000 forcibly displaced since Israel began drone strikes into Lebanon on September 23rd. Of those, 30,000 people have fled into neighboring Syria alone, nearly half of which are children. Despite international calls for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant stated that "the military would keep targeting Hezbollah until northern Israel is safe again."

Lebanon hosts about 1.5 million Syrians who fled civil war in their country. With existing Syrian refugee settlements just across the border in Lebanon, many of those fleeing the current violence are heading back to their home country for the first time in 13 years. Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, the UNHCR representative in Syria, said that the choice for Syrian refugees is life-or-death at this point and the drone strikes are the more immediate threat.
