Laina Lomont is a recent graduate from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, where she double majored in Government and History. She now lives in Washington, D.C. and works as a Federal Consultant for the Department of Commerce, focusing on international trade policy in the active pharmaceutical ingredient industry.
Throughout her undergraduate career, Laina took extensive coursework in human rights and transitional justice and applied her learning outside the classroom. In 2022, she interned with the Comision Provincial por la Memoria in La Plata, Argentina, where she constructed biographies of people who had been forcibly disappeared by the Junta 1970s/1980s. The following summer, she received a grant to assist with a book project on the beginnings of human rights organizing inspired by the Catholic Liberation Movement in Guatemala.
Outside of work, Laina volunteers for the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group. She is certified as an EMT and enjoys combining her love for the outdoors with her passion for helping others.
